Take the tapes apart and manually fast forward them until they are mid-tape, and then try inserting them into the newer drive and see if it finds the servo track...
By what a few others on the forum have found, it seems as though the tapes get rewound to tape end, well past the servo signal on...
When you hit the Eject button: does the LED on the button flash? Does it even Attempt to eject the tape at all? when you hit the button, it should draw in the tape, rewind a bit, then (Attempt to) Eject, all while the LED flashes.

Ack: I just noticed you had mentioned its Server 2003 that you are using, on which Echo 1safe MIGHT not work... You Can use NTBACKUP to backup to the drive (It will be seen as a MiniQIC tape), or you can use Yosemite Tapeware, which can be found Here...
To check to see if it is being recognized, go into the Device Manager, and look for an entry that says "Tape Drives". You should be able to expand that, and see a device labelled "Onstream ADR Series". If you see this, Windows can see the drive.
