Hi, back again. Thanks for the tip, Eugene. But I'm a bit afraid of resetting stuff. What kind of things will be lost then? I'm happy (most) things work for a change, so I'm afraid to 'change my winning team'. Besides, my collegues have the same problems with these files, so I'm don't think...
Odd indeeed.
I'd tried the 'Save as' already and that didn't work. What does works, is this:
open the file in Acrobat, print to pdf995 (shareware) and import that file.
But doing that with 75 files every other week is a bit to much.
I'm having problems importing certain pdf-files in Indesign (CS3 on pc), while Quark 5 has no problems at all with them. CS3 says it can’t open the pdf-file.
The pdf’s are made by a program, written by a collegue in Delphi using the built-in Delphi-component (synactis PDF In-The-Box version...
Sounds great, but I must admit the 'Drop caps and nested styles' is undocumented territory for me. And the natives speak Dutch, while the map you made is in English :-)
Now let's see: I created a new nested style and can change 4 settings for it (I'll try to translate):
1) the character style...
I just had a little test ride with it. It works like a charm. You make a characterstyle (say, chaptername-space and give it 100 pt). Once you have your text in place, you search and replace: find a ^p (paragraphstyle: CS3-chaptername) and replace it with space^p (characterstyle...
Thanks, I will look in to the 'book-function'.
Meanwhile I came up with a solution that will probably scare "you know what" out of any real editor: after each chapter name you add a single space. You make this space a 100 pt and voilá, your chapter name drops a few cm on the page and as long...
Hi, another question.
I've got an old book about Indesign CS and it says that on the import text window you can choose to delete extra white lines at the end of paragraphs and/or between paragraphs. Is this option in CS3 still available somewhere? At the moment I solve this by...
Thanks Eugene. It does make sense now. I was hoping I could avoid using the text frame options or the different master page, because I often have to deal with revisions, where text is added or deleted. Then my chapter page is somewhere else and text on a normal page suddenly starts low because...
Hi, I hope I'm able to explain my problem...
I make reports with lots of chapters in CS3. I want to have the chapter name a few cm lower on a page. So I import my Word doc and convert my Word-paragraph style (Chaptername) to my appropriate CS3-paragraph style (CS3-chaptername). CS3-chaptername...
Thanks a lot Marcus and Andrew. The thumnail thingy did the trick. Btw, I tried several searches using words like 'quarkfiles', 'quark docs', 'combine', 'import', and a lot more, but got nowhere (or everywhere, in some cases. Too many hits is just as big a problem).
Even with 'combining quark...
I have a 200 page quarkfile A which is completely done upto page 100 (fonts, pictures, everything) and somebody finished page 101-200 for me but used an old version of my quarkfile, so pages 1-100 are not done yet (lets call this file B). How do I combine the two? Can I somehow import page...
Using different paragraph styles is one solution. I already inserted paragraph returns (or better put them back in) to solve the problem and both solutions will be the same amount of work, I think. But your solution is probably better because more in line with the rest. Thanks.
I'm just...
Thxs for all your help so far.
Ekwoman, your solution sounds great. When I give my bodytext a space after of one basegridline all goes well. I just have to find and replace a lot of double returns in single returns. And give all my paragraph styles like headings a space after. No problem...
Hi,
My problem is that I have a large text and that sometimes the empty line (white line? I don't know how to call this in English) between two paragraphs ends up as the first line of a new colum. In Word this is corrected automatically, but how do you do this in Indesign CS2? I could delete...
Well, that was helpful! Some Dave Saunders encountered this problem some time ago and wrote a script for it. It's shareware and it seems to work ok. It puts the title in a single-cell table that goes across your columns, whithout creating a new frame. Check it out...
Thanks for your response. I am going to post this question at the user-to-user forum of Adobe. See if anybody got any bright ideas. By the way, just in case there isn't any on-the-menu solution, wouldn't it be possible to put this action (make new textframe, put it in the right spot, cut and...
This is exactly the problem I have. The insert break character won't do it, it just moves the rest of the text to the next colomn. I haven't tried the table-trick yet, but it seems a bit to much hassle for the problem. The first post is already some time ago. Has anybody found a working solution...
