You should not use them because they are illegal-use Selftest or MeasureUp as Microsoft recommend them(as shown on the Microsoft exam objectives sites)

what i forgot to mention was that there is an exam objectives page for all the Microsoft exams. This is just the exam objectives site for the 70-536 exam. If you navigate around the MS site then there wil be a similar site for the exam you are studying for..

Yes, I think the approach to studying is as follows(feel free to add or remove suggestions)
1. read the books and practice what you have learned with the software provided or available for download. (Understanding)
2. read the books again at least twice more to remeber what you have covered...
transcender tests are well known and well used although Microsoft prefers students use Measure up and/or selftest. These are both recommended on their website in the sites for the exam objectives.

Yes, its worth going for the 70-433 exam. It is full of SQL code and there is an official Microsoft book for it to help you pass the exam. There is also a book entitled "The Real SQL server 2008". If you need more info on these books just ask...
Both books are very readable- like most techie...
Yes thats a very good book. I like the in-depth writing style of it.
The reason I listed the Microsoft books is that is what the Microsoft site recommend for these exams. Of course there will often be other books which are good for the exam.
I notice Denny that you are a networking guy who...
No problem. Thats the first exam on the new certification for 2008.
If youre interested in doing the developer/dba exams, then consider the following:
Developer MCTS: 70-433 -> MCITP: 70-451
Database admin MCTS: 70-432 -> MCITP: 70-450
However there are no books available for the...
Sure,
go to this site and look at the recommended resources:
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-433#tab3
The book is called "MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-433): Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008"

The exam tests your knowledge on SQL syntax plus a few other things. If you are used to write lots of SQL code, Stored procedures, SQL queries and so on, then it is right for you.

A friend and I were discussing again.
He said programming requires too much maths knowledge-I said that you just need to know the basics (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication).
He also reckons HTML is a programming language ;-)
What do you think?

How about:
5. An exam engine-one which sets questions and marks it
6. A bank account program
7. A loan calculator(calculates repayments over a period of time)
8. A Calculator
9. A text editor
10. A File utilities program-file renaming and file format/writing tools
Have a star back lol.
I like the way this conversation has turned to quality of code rather than "Can someone do my homework for me, its 50 pages long" ;-)
Here are some ideas to get you thinking..
1. Games (e.g. Chess / Noughts and crosses/ 3-dimensional noughts and crosses :-))
2. Cricket scorecard
3. Football tables/fixture lists/result predictor
so when someone is learning a subject area for the first time and taking exams then practical experience is important.
However we both seem to have gained experience first before going for certification....
Thanks guys!
This thread is just to suggest ideas and hopefully it has done that. The idea about traffic lights is one I have come across in Realtime systems programming-good idea.
In terms of quality I think (IMVHO) that it covers everything, the way you design the code(not class design but...
Games are a favourite for some programmers when they go out and work out there. Smaller games are also a great way of beginners becoming fascinated with programing and going onto bigger things. Hopefully ;-)
