If I open Word after copying text from the web or from an Excel spreadsheet, the paste function in Word is grayed out - there is nothing to paste. I then have to go back, copy the text again (Word is now launched) and then the paste functions properly.

Why must I first open Word before executing a copy & paste? This was not the case in Word 97. Is there a workaround?
