I have found the culprit; or more accurately the fix. Turning off "LDAP client signing requirements" in the local security policy of the laptop clients will allow them to once again login and cache...
Two days ago all of our laptops that are taken off site started throwing "Domain not found" errors when not plugged into the office network. In the past these logins were cached on the local machine and you could login without a problem.
Nothing has changed on the server side, or on the client...
