sorry if my initial post was a bit scatty norty303, the only way I can explain is, I flashed my DW-U14a oem to a DRU 510A it worked fine but I started to get read & write errors after about a week, I disconnected it left it 6 months reconnected it and now its back to being a DW-U14a without me...

After flashing a dvd rw DW-u14a to a sony DRU 510A (speed increase) 6 mnths ago dvd rw would'nt work not reading or writing got a new 1 (opterite)but left old dvd rw in pc case anyway out of interest connected old dvd back in other day & windows picked it up as a sony DW - U14A( no such DVD RW)...

thanks all for your replys, got it sorted now usb problem still working with 1.1 updated driver to 2 and is 100 times better, still not brilliant though should have gone for internal card not external, again thanks for your help
