I run XP Home SP2 on a Asus P5GD1-VM motherboard, P4 3.4GHz, 4GB RAM.
There are six USB ports, two on the front of the system unit, four at the back. I always understood that these were all USB 2.0.

IPCONFIG tells me that my IP address is 192.168.1.64 but my fixed IP address is 87.74.42.129. Where so I enter this? In Nertwork Connections properties the 192 address is entered. Is this where I should put the 87 address?

I have a partial resolution to my problem!
Thanks to everyone who offered help.
First option was check that PuNP was started - OK. Later I discovered that Universal PuNP must NOT be started!
Second option was Aproposfix which I assume is to get rid of some specific spyware/adware/malware...
I'm about to explode with frustration!
Problems started when USB ports seemed to spontaneously stop working. Then Device Manager window is empty. Nothing shown at all. Also My Computer takes ages to load and system often seems to hang
