I agree that this is the more appropriate forum for this topic, but I had already posted in the other one, which does seem to have a fair amount of BCM stuff if I remember correctly.
ACEWARLOCK:I think you meant to post this reply in the norstar forum.
I think this is the right place to post...
Actually, I'm not convinced that I shouldn't "cross-post". I think there are people who read this forum that don't read the other one (Forums > Wiring Closet > Phone Systems > Nortel: Norstar systems Forum), and vice versa. Tell me if I'm wrong. I got some helpful info from both.
As far as I can see Public just means that other phones can answer your phone when it is ringing. If you set the line as private it seems that you lose most of the valuable features of the system, like pickup etc. So, I guess I am confused as to why the installer would set all the lines as...
OK, I set a line as Public and it allows me to do a Group Pickup. So I assume it will let me do Answer DN's or directed pickups also. Is there a good explanation in the documentation of the differences between Public and Private lines and the implications of using each? I haven't seen anything...
We have a BCM400 using Release 3.6 Build 2.2 software. I cannot pickup any external calls using directed pickup, group pickup or answer dn. Directed pickup and answer dn will work on internal calls, but not external. I am very new at phone system programming, so the answer is probably very...
All the lines are DID's. The Answer Key setting (Answer DN type?) is set to basic. A Pickup group group may be the best solution then as long as the bosse's phone doesn't ring everytime the recept's phone rings. That's what I thought I read in some of the documentation... Anyway I'm still...
So I would have to set the bosses' line as public? What are the implications of that? Maybe answer dn is not going to do what i want it to do, and if not, then how do I make it easy for the recept to answer bosses' line when the boss is not at her desk. i have showed the recept how to do a...
It does ring the bosses'phone
It is probably programmed private to the boss. Could that be the prob? But then why is the recept able to pick up the internal calls?
Maybe I'm not making the problem clear enough.
When someone in the office rings the bosses' extension, the receptionist (who has the bosses' ext as an answer dn) can pick up or answer the call. I assume this is what you mean by a norstar user, but they are ringing the bosses' phone (not just...
I changed the answer dn on recept phone to appr&ring, still doesn't work. I'm not sure I understand the distinction you make between voice call norstar feature and any voice call. If the bosses phone rings and the recept. has the bosses' extension as an answer dn, her phone should ring or show...
We have a BCM400 using Release 3.6 Build 2.2 software. I have assigned the bosses' extension as an answer dn on the receptionist's phone. It works for internal, or intercom calls, but external calls do not ring or show (actually set for appr only)on receptionists' phone. I found a matrix in the...
