ok everyone i appreciate all your help, i figured everything out, what was confusing me was by looking at the audio driver, it told me it was installed so i skipped over it, but in reality it was just my computer letting me know it hates me, it wasnt installed so i did hit install and im back...

Its the same version ive been using everytime i re-install it, this is seriously making me want to throw my computer out the window!!! im so frustrated and i seem to have tryed everything under the sun! i do have sm bus controllers....i know that for sure

ive re-installed windows before and had this same problem but somehow it was easy last time, i thought i installed it from the cd, but it looks like it says its already installed, id i go through Belarc and they gave me my report so i'll go see what that says now

yes, theirs exclamation points on 2 things 1 - multimedia audio controller 2 - SM bus controller

Thanks, i did miss a few updates which is why i couldnt change screen resolution, so that's fixed now i appreciate the help, but still no sound....im gonna play around with the drivers some more

ok, i have re-installed Windows XP on this computer maybe....3 or 4 times, and i've had no problem at all, i've been able to figure out how to reinstall everything. this time around i guess my brain doesnt feel likeputting up with windows so it won't help me. i did re-install, but i cant...
