    80GB drive recognised as 28.5GB

Neither - I've been trying to get both the Main 14GB Primary Master and the new 80GB Primary Slave working through the IDE Controller card. The card auto-detects the drives with no manual method of checking/changes the drive details. Anyway, I'm sure you'll all be glad to know I finally got...

    80GB drive recognised as 28.5GB

hehe. MB locks up and won't recognise drive - 32GB limit with BIOS. New IDE Controller card (handles up to 137GB drives) recognises drive as 28.5GB in it's bios. OS and every other App i've tried sees same. Tried flashing the BIOS on the MoBo weeks ago - No way I could get it to work. Kept...

New HD problems- flash bios id error

I've had the exact same problem with the GA BX-2000 - Tried to install an 80GB Seagate Barracuda but hit the MoBos 32GB limit. Tried flashing the BIOS with the latest bx2000_F9 update and got the 'BIOS ID Error'. At the time no one in the world seemed to have heard of such an error. The...

Yup, jumpers definately correct. Main 14GB drive set as master, 80GB drive as slave. Tried all sorts of combinations, through both Motherboard and IDE Controller card. Made sure all jumper setting were correct. No difference. Drive always shows as 28.5GB.

    BIOS Flashing

Hi Guys. thanks for the posts. Finally given up trying to flash my bios and have ordered an IDE controller card for £20 that should arrive tomorrow. Certainly not gonna pay £40 for a BIOS upgrade that's probably freely available on the net (somewhere). :) Also heard today (after ordering my...

    BIOS Flashing

Hi nizeguy, thanks for the response. Yup - I tried DiscWizard when I first got the drive. Seemed to work, but then each time I re-booted it reverted back to drive not found and hang-ups etc. The only way I could get it working using DiscWizard was to go through the whole install process from...

    BIOS Flashing

And yes, I am being extremely cautious. Definately don't want to fry my Bios. What I'm finding confusing is that everything I've searched for always eventually points to the bx2000.f9 upgrade for the GA-BX2000. If that's wrong, how the hell is anyone supposed to find the correct Bios upgrade...

    BIOS Flashing

OK, given them a try. Still not convinced tho :-) Guess it's the thought of having to pay for a bios upgrade. :-(

    BIOS Flashing

As far as I understand it, the "Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG" bit doesn't actually mean that much, as it's the motherboard manufacturer that customises the BIOS for their particular boards.. A search on google for "Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG" just seems to list a million and...

    Floppy drive not recognized correctly

Have you tried the floppy drive itself in another machine? Might at least show whether its a problem with the Drive or your machine..

    BIOS Flashing

Trying to install a new 80GB drive but it isn't recognised and hangs the machine. Apparently I need an updated Bios to use drives over 34GB. So, now I'm trying to flash the BIOS for my Giga-byte GA-BX2000 board. I've downloaded the correct files from the Giga-byte site and set up the floppy...

Hi. My PC was set up as a dual b

Aaargh. Can't believe how stupid I was being. of course the oldboot.ini was still a hidden read only file! a quick ATTRIB OLDBOOT.INI -s -h -r followed by RENAME OLDBOOT.INI BOOT.INI has now got my system back to it's normal dual-boot self. However, I'm now back to the original problem. How...
