I think your problem with XP lies with a file called boot.ini. This is used by XP to execute startup. The MBR points to this file. It appears that your MBR could also be at fault.
As you cannot get to your XP, try "fdisk /MBR". you have nothing more to lose. My Partition magic doesn't...
