    Thanks.. I kinda was fearing that was the reason. I changed the scale of my document to 1:12 since I was dealing in inches and feet, and everything works fine. By the way, I wanted to know if / where I can change some of the dimension settings. I see some quirks like some dimensions get locked...

    Ok, I was going about things the wrong way.. but I am trying to correct my ways. I created this detailed technical drawing with different line thicknesses, dimensions etc. all in one layer. Then I created layers for each object type and carefully moved every object type to its respective layer...
