I figured it out, apparently the last "IT" guy had no dhcp working on the AD servers, and had every one aquire a address from the linksys router they had for the outside. Then he would put a static DNS address in the PC's otherwise they would get the outside dns numbers. I didn't see it on the...
Did you try changing which switch the server was on? May be the server is on a bad port on the switch...If it's managed check the settings on that port...is it set to auto?
I have a AD domain with about 40 users on it. I had to wipe a Win 98 machine and install XP Pro on it. Joined the PC to the domain with no issue. User signs in and gets access to her mapped drives fine.
The next day, either if the PC is logged out or shut down, the user logs into the domain...
On two out of 35 of the citrix clients we have, when the user trys to print in citrix, his default printer changes to some other random printer rather than the default printer on his machine. His default printer is a network printer. When he prints locally, the default is always correct, so it...
My VPN Software doesn't like the QOS Packet Scheduler. I was curious if there was a way to disable (uncheck) the network service or uninstall the QOS through either a EXE or a batch file. It's not the QOS in services that's the problem either....The actual network service has to be disabled. Any...
So in order for it to work...ad correct me if I'm wrong...You would have to reinstall windows 2000 on a new box....and then restore the system state, files, and folders. But wouldn't putting the old reg on the new box screw up all the Hardware reg settings?
We are going to be doing a DR at Sunguard but the test hardware is not the same as the production box that we took the backups off of. I'm running 2000 server SP4 with Arcserve 9. I know that dis-similiar hardware was a problem for NT4 and I've heard conflicting arguements about 2000. Can...
I tested out a group policy for SUS yesterday and certain test PC's screen resolution changed from 1024X768 to 800X600 after a reboot. I thought the policy was the same as the Default domain policy except for the Windows Update options. Anyone run into this issue?
(XP machines, AD running on...
Thanks for the info...looking at the site...I realized I had the GPO in the Users OU, but not in the Computers OU...duh! Some of those utils are really helpful.
I'm having an issue, it's actually with SUS, but I'm hoping somebody can help out. I set up the SUS server, have a GPO in active directory all set up. I know that function is working because I can deny access to the Windows update site and the test group can't get to the website anymore. I have...
I've been telling my company for a while to get some sort of patch management system and they have stalled forever on it. Now, thanks to blaster and welchia, they are forging ahead and wanting patch management ASAP. I was curious on a whole what the likes and dislikes of SMS are and if there is...
All of the PDC's and BDC's besides this last one have been upgraded to a AD mixed mode without a hitch. I get to the last BDC and I get the following error:
Operation Failed:
Domain either does not exist or cannot be contacted.
Let me add some more info to my problem. I have a 120 gig harddrive (system drive), with 95 gigs free actually. I tried the "method 1 workaround" but I can't complete step 2 because there is nothing that says "drive settings." Under the System restore tab under properties...
When attempting to do a system restore on Windows XP, I get an error message telling me to free up more drive space (200 megs). My harddrive had 60 gigs free. Any Ideas?
I was still having a similar problem with the Home drives and the mapping going to the root instead of the users drive. I was using the home drive option under the users profile tab. I disabled that option, and
instead I tried using the following in the login script:

rosiebsdad...do you have to modify the autoexec.ncf to get this program to work correctly? I don't have anything in the server list when I run the rconip.exe...
