HI PHIL,
Maybe it is not supposed to happen, but it cannot find the necessary system files and does not boot.
I also changed the disk assignment letter to X: before shutting down to remove the old C: and move the new drive into position D0. When it did not boot, I shut down and reinstalled...
I want to install a larger SATA drive on an XP SP3 system, but I do not want to reinstall OS and programs as present system is working just fine.
I just install the new drive as D1, and partition (primary) and format the new drive using Disk Manager.
Now, I use Ghost to create an image of the...
HI PORKCHOPEXPRESS,
I tried you last suggestion, but it did not seem to make a difference so I put them back to medium. It does seem that the inability to connect to a DNS occurs more often with shorter hibernate times. For me, if the error shows itself more often, then I can try something...
HI PORKCHOPEXPRESS,
I will do what you suggest, but it will take several days to find out its effect. The amount of time in hibernation for the problem to occur varies from one hour to overnight. This makes it very difficult to know whether a given change makes a difference. I have even had a...
Past Ref: thread608-64 1870 IE cannot find server
After hibernation for a while, browser usually cannot display DNS web site upon awakening.
I, have "enjoyed" this freakish problem for several weeks now. The problem appears after I have placed in full hibernation for an extended period...
...way, I searched all of my systems that have ever had a USB scanner, also contacted some 15 fellow computer nut buddies, and asked them to check for *.USB on all their systems with USB scanners. To date, the only such files located were in the Sandra diagnostic utilities.
By the way, I was...
HI BadBigBen,
Thpought you were on to something with the *.USB file. A search of my entire hard disks showed no such file for either the old or nef configurations, nor was there one for the working computer system.
I did find a file called Sandra.USB that was in the instalation of the Sandra...
HI BadBigBen,
Yes, I am aware of the driver in Windows\System32\Driver. My driver for the Microtek 4800 is called Miiscan.sys and is identical between the working and non-working systems.
I even went so far as to observe the Ready light on the scanner during bootup for the two systems. They...
TO ALL MY HELPERS
As I promised, here is a status report.
I did install the patch, although it is for the combination of the AMD AND the VIA chipset (I have the SIS). I saw no effect.
I have reinstalled the drivers probably 20 times more under various conditions, and changed a few files...
Thanks for all the responses. BigBadBen, you pointed out the fact that the fact that it is probably best to leave the Plug and Play OS flag at NO, although I have never done so before and all worked well. I did try it, and it made no difference in this instance. However you did get me to...
Hi kiddpete,
Yes, all Win98SE updates are in place. My OS is Win98SE as stated. My browser is 6.0 SP1. Same is true on both the working and the non-working.
Thanks for your suggestions, tho.
Grandpa Carl
Thanks geo87 for responding to my request for help. I can assure you that I have read every morsel of info fro the Microtek web site, as well as a thorough search of the internet, several times. Nothing has been able to help. I know that the USB bus is working as I have no problem with the...
I am having difficulty in re-installing my Microtek Scanmate 4800 USB scanner.
Scanner was previously installed and worked with no problems for some times. I was doing a clean reinstallation of the system, starting from scratch.
Reinstalled Win98SE, many basic programs, including Office 97...
HI DON,
I have seent this many times in the past on my Win98 systems. You did not say what OS you were using.
The problem would "go away" unon a reboot, but then appear. Then I noted one day that I could make the problem cure itself by the following:
1. At the desktop
2. Hold down...
HI ARTJAY,
I checked my old computer with Win95C on it and the closest printer wich could do in a pinch is HP550c.
Go to http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareDownloadIndex.jhtml?reg=&cc=us&softitem=dj516en&prodId=dj670c&lc=en&sw_lang=en
to pick up the latest driver that will work on WIN95 and...
HI ARTJAY,
The bidirectional cable allows communications from the printer back to the computer, such as ink problems (in some printers) native fonts, etc. Note that just because the wizard can't find a matching name for your printer does not necessarily mean that you aren't communicating with...
HI ARFJAY,
I agree with Comtec17. One other point is to be sure you have an IEEE bidirectional printer cable and not one of the older ones. This is required if the computer is to be able to interrogate the printer.
