that is true but you can edit the ip address that you get from APIPA it doesn't HAVE to be a class B, if can be anything you want, even a public ip address. there is a reg key setting, if you want it i will pull it up for you.

in windows you can configure the APIPA address, if you are positive that there is not a DHCP server any where i'd check that reg key and see if thats were it is getting it from. other than that you shouldn't get a vailid private ip address if theres not one either staticly set or being given to...
Is there a non-third party way to accomplish this? it's only one service that i want to monitor, and don't have a need for a complete monitoring software package.
