Ha, well it's a good question.... in my ignorance I thought the lcd was just showing error codes, I didn't realise it was interactive, so when scrolling through all I can assume is that I hit enter when in status 1 and changed it from M to N.... doh!
The links are in the IBM info centre - as...
No need to throw it out of the windows now.....
This was a hardware rather than software issue. On the P5, there is a pull out led screen with 3 buttons. At the 01 position it was showing M which appears to be maintenance mode. Using the buttons it was possible to set this to N normal mode...
SERVER STILL WON'T BOOT UP
Despite being able to recover from the Mysksb DVD, the server still won't boot up - it keeps going into Diagnostics Mode.
I can get to a shell prompt from the diag menu and I can see the rootvg and logical volumes, I just can't figure out why it won't boot up.
I've...
Thanks to everyone for all of their help so far.
I've mananged to get a bootable CD now (i had to rename it to .iso).
I can now boot from the CD and recover, however at the end of the recovery the system reboots, but when it comes back up it goes into Diagnostic menu.
I've checked the...
Thanks p5wizard and Duke for your comments, can you elaborate on how to make this a bootable cd / dvd? I've downloaded a trial version of Nero 7 and can see an option to create a bootable CD or bootable DVD, but it seems I need to perform another step prior to burning to CD?
Presumably the...
Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been struggling to get the box back up from this morning. Finally managed to get it to boot up, but still no joy on the CD front.
I'd set the boot order to be cd0, then hdisk0. I'd assumed (never assume!) that it would try cd0 and if it couldn't find...
The CD Drive is in the bootlist...
# bootlist -m normal -o
cd0
I then queried the DVD that I made yesterday, strangely this has a . at the end of the filename, whereas on my PC it doesn't:
# ls -l /cdrom
total 2133504

Un-successful I'm afraid, any other ideas? I'm sure this is possible as someone else has managed to do it on another thread, but unfortunately their instructions weren't detailed.
# /usr/sbin/mkcd -V 'rootvg' '-R' '-S'

Verifying command...
I think this is the SMIT version of the command I issued earlier. The file produced was called "cd_image_49168", i.e. no extension. Not sure if I need to give it an extension or if I need to do anything in 'Record Now' CD writing software to make it bootable.
It's an option, however in the future we're going to be putting all benchmarking machines on to their own network so would like to avoid doing it this way if possible.
I have a new P5 with AIX 5.3 that I'm configuring - my first AIX install, so apologies for the questions :(
There are two HMC ports on the back of the server so I plugged a laptop in via network cable into HMC1, then went into ASMI and configured the network. I then re-connected to the new IP...
Please can someone help with my query? I'm currently setting up a new P5 Server which has AIX 5.3 installed. The server has a DVD-Rom drive, NO tape drive.
I'd like to get it to a point where Volume Groups, Logical Volumes and Filesystems are configured, users added, Oracle installed.
I'd...
