I keep recieving NDR emails from my serverstating that my email could not be delivered to the address as it does not exist. The subject lines are alway of a a SPAM nature (if you see what I mean).

BUT

I am not sending out any emails. Anyone know what is doing this or how to troubleshoot it. I am getting between 300-500 a day at present.

The server is not being used as a relay as the queue is empty and as far as I am aware no one else has this issue, beleive me they would be shouting if they did.

Thanks in advance!

Your email addressed may have been spoofed by a spammer.

I thought that as well but all the NDR's I am getting are from my own server not all over the internet

Right, because the spammer is sending from another server to an email address that doesn't exist, so it gets returned back to you since it looks like the email was from you to begin with.

Otherwise, check your queue's to see if your server is actually trying to send them, which would mean someone has access to your server to attempt to send through (which is less likely the case).

i am having the same problem with a very active emailer on one of my servers, it makes sense what you say is happenning, but how do you stop this activity.

Right, my queue is clear, so we are not relaying the emails.

All the destination addresses are on my own domain though. That is what makes it so confusing. If this was someone spoofin my address I would be getting NDRs for a variety of sources.

tcicraig, you cannot stop it, since the NDR's are coming to you from another (innocent) target, like lander215 explained.
To avoid doing so yourself, turn OFF NDR's and any automatic replies to the internet.
