Yes the laptop is assigned a proper ip off the network! 192.168.16.x I jst checked the DNS(not too familiar with this), there was an IP in the reverse lookup zones which conflicted with the gaffers IP address. I deleted this and now the connection with the server name is going through fine...

Jst attempted to ping the server name from my gaffers laptop and it times out each time, i then pinged the sppservers ip address and it went through no bother at all????? Strange, any suggestions anyone Thanks

The ping went through with no problems from my desktop, i can also connect to the server using the server name, the bad thing is its my gaffers laptop that wont connect. How will i check for the host record and can i refresh the DNS as im sure this problem has occured before!
