Actually, your suspicions were somewhat correct. However, the free personal learning edition available at Autodesk's website gives the exact same error when trying to install. Too weird. I think that I am looking at a re-format here.

Im running chkdsk on the drive right now. I'll update with the outcome of this. It is possible that the same file keeps getting written to a bad sector, although, unlikely considering how many times it has been re-written.

The shortcut key for a new window in IE is ctrl+n, so, maybe your N key is stuck down. Try with another keyboard and let me know how that works out. Also, if you have a USB keyboard, try another USB port as that one may be receiving bad signals.
