Installing Web Based Terminal Services in a Windows 2000 Server

1. Check if IIS is installed, If not installed
a. Go to Start\Settings\Control Panel\Add/Remove Programs
b. Select Add/Remove Windows Components
c. Click to Select Internet Information Services
d. Select Details and make sure the following is selected:
i. Common Files
ii. Internet Information Services Snap-In
iii. World Wide Web Service

2. Download the appropiate files under these URLs:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=33AD53D8-9ABC-4E15-A78F-EB2AABAD74B5&displaylang=en

3. Run the TSAC file and make sure that the installation is saved under X:\inetpub\TSWeb

NOTE: Make sure the web files are NOT saved under the X:\inetpub\wwwroot\TSWeb. Save them under X:\inetpub\TSWeb instead. This minimizes the security risks of Terminal Service being accessed from the web root.

4. Open the IIS Management Console

5. Create a new Virtual Web Server
a. Right-Click on the server name
b. Select New
c. Web Site
d. Click Next
e. Description: Terminal Services
f. Click Next
g. Change TCP Port to another port such as: 8888
h. Click Next
i. Path: X:\inetpub\TSWeb
j. Uncheck ôAllow anonymous access to this Web siteö
k. Click Next
l. Only Read and Run Scripts should be selected
m. Click Next

6. Configure Firewall to have both of these ports open: 8888 and 80
