To send vmail to email and alarms on embedded with no SMTP server.
Pre requisite: Release 9.0.3+
To set up a new gmail account for your customer:

put in your customer's business name or thereabouts. When they ask for your existing email, the new email address is acceptable. Verify your mobile number otherwise new Google changes mean your email doesn't work.
After account creation you don't have to enable imap or pop settings in your gmail account.
NEW STEP: PAY ATTENTION:You then to first sign in with your gmail account, then go to [link https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps]https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps[/link] and turn this on. This enables less secure apps to mail out.
Go to manager> IP routes
Create a new IP route to your gateway if you don't have one.
E.g.
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
IP Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP address: e.g 192.168.8.1 (check with ipconfig in command prompt)
Destination: LAN1 if LAN 1 is plugged in.
Go to Manager> System> SMTP
server address: smtp.gmail.com
port: 587 (AACON recommends 587 and has had no difficulty)
Email from address: the address you just created using gmail
Use StartTLS: Tick
Server requires authentication: Tick
user name: the address you just created using gmail
Password: (you can do it) (hint gmail password)
Use Challenge Response Authentication( CRAM- MD5): UNTICK
Got to Manager> System> system events
Click add and add your intended email receiver here. Check the type of events you wish to be notified for.
Reboot and watch your emails firing off in monitor using the SMTP filter.
There is possibily a setting requirement that may be dependent on your locale or release:

Check your security settings..http change to unsecured
The new security default setting by avaya have set this to secure high.
You may have to lower it to allow the email out.
