While there is no silver bullet here, I've actually seen an environment that went nine months without a single server crash. The secret was version control.

This customer had rolled out one version of Notes and Domino and that was that. They didn't upgrade when they got the QMR CDs. They stayed at 4.62 until going to 5.01. Every client and server was running the exact same version, and they never had problems. When they did roll out R5.0.1, they didn't stray from that version. Period.
