I've done this trick before, and it works really well. I assume that the hard drives have at least 100 MB free to accomplish this.
Copy the contents of the \clients\w32intel directory from the CD into some directory on the hard drive that your users won't easily find. I'm thinking something like c:\notes\upgrade.r5. This way, when you're ready to deploy R5 using the automated install, you can drop the setup.iss file into that directory via an e-mail message and then send out the automated upgrade message. Users won't need to do this over a dial-up connection because the installation files will be stored locally.
