I found a way to simply search for a specific object ID in livelink and return the object properties from IE7>.
(sometimes people send 'open' links, but you might want to open it in a specific application or want to edit the file in another application. Or you just want to know the store location of the object.
- Open the 'properties - General' of a specific item in Livelink
- Delete everything behind 'objAction=properties' of the url that you see in your browser.
- Copy the url that is left in the address bar.
- Go in Internet Explorer(IE7>) to the 'more search engines' option and clcik on add your own.
- paste the url and replace the 'objID=123456789'(where '123456789' is the unique ID of the object you used in step 1) and replace it for 'objID=TEST'.
- Type a name. 'LivelinkID' for example.
Ofcourse the search result will give an error because Livelink doesn't know an objID=test.
Now IE7> has added a new search engine in the menu bar.
Suppose your default search engine is google. If you want to lookup a certain Livelink ID just paste it in the search window and click on the pull down arrow and select your selfmade seach engine.(LivelinkID). Now Livelink will return the properties window of your file or folder etc.
