Centura/Gupta SQLBase ODBC Driver gives error 09272

by  jenniferN  Posted    (Edited  )
You will see the full error from MSAccess. The ODBC connection may work first time, and then not a second time, until the link is broken and recreated. When experiencing this through another application, it may not give the error message, but simply give an ODBC failure message on that second attempt.

Gupta has a technical bullitin on this. It reads:

Description:

ODBC enabled applications yield error 09272 , "GCI NTI Not Initialized" while attempting to connect to a SQLBase Database under the following conditions:

SQLBase ODBC Driver version 3.x or higher.
ODBC Driver Manager version 3.5.1 or higher.
SQLBase Client version 6.1.02 or below.
This is caused because the 3.x version of the SQLBase ODBC Driver and the 3.51 version of the ODBC Driver Manager are multi-threaded and the 6.1.02 version of the SQLBase Client(sqlwntm.dll) is not thread enabled.

Solution:

The problem only exists in the above listed configuration. It can be avoided by upgrading the SQLBase Client(sqlwntm.dll) to version 7.x, which is thread enabled.
