Goal
Preparing a Microsoft Windows NT workstation for reinstallation of VirusScan 4.5.x
Goal - Uninstall VirusScan 4.5.x
Goal - Manually uninstall of VirusScan
Goal - Manually removal of VirusScan

Environment
McAfee VirusScan 4.5
McAfee VirusScan 4.5.1
Microsoft Windows NT
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows XP

Symptom
Error: "The wizard was interrupted before VirusScan could be installed"

Symptom
Error: "Setup ended prematurely due to an error".

Symptom
During Uninstall, the wizard ends and rolls back.

Fix
VSC4.5 for Windows NT Reinstallation Directions
IMPORTANT: Before attempting to manually remove VirusScan 4.5 from your computer, make sure to backup the Registry. This will safeguard your Windows NT installation. You can recover your windows NT configuration by restoring the backup if something goes wrong.


Stop the AVSync manger service.

Run the MSIzap batch program "Remove.bat".

Edit the Registry as described below.

NOTE: If you currently have Virus Scan 7.0 installed on the machine you must remove it
through Add/Remove Programs before the following steps.

NOTE: It is highly recommend that you backup the registry before performing the following steps!

Remove the following keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Agent

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\CMNUPD__3000

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\EPOAGENT3000

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\EPOAGENT3000META

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\SYSPROPS1000

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\TVD\Shared Components\Framework

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\TVD\Shared Components\Events\Forwarding

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\McAfeeFramework


Remove the following String Value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
\McafeeUpdaterUI

Removing the following directories:
"C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Framework\"
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Network Associates\Common Framework\"


Click ôStartö, ôRunö & type the following two commands with quotes exactly where they are:

"C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Framework\naPrdMgr" /RegServer

AND

Regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\vsplugin.dll"


Delete McAfee VirusScan Files:

Click on Start|Run.

In the 'Open:' field, type "C:\Program Files\Network Associates" (with the "") and click 'OK'.

Delete the VirusScan folder

Close this window.

Click on Start|Run.

In the Open field, type "C:\Program Files\common files" (with the "") and click 'OK'

Delete the Network Associates folder.

Close all windows

Click on Start|Run.

In the Open field, type X:\%windows%\system and hit return. (where X is the drive letter your windows directory exits and "%windows% is the name of your Windows directory.) and click 'OK'

Delete the following files:
AVSMCPA.CPL
INETWH32.DLL

Click on Start|Run.

In the Open field enter X:\%windows%\system32\driver and hit return. (where X is the drive letter your windows directory exits and "%windows% is the name of your Windows directory.)
Delete the following file:
NAIFSREC.SYS

Your OS is now ready for reinstallation of VirusScan.
