Synching Problems WinCE-Palm

Help, another sync software messed up my Truesync!

by  letitiashen  Posted    (Edited  )
Rule #1: Never, never, run more than one synchronization program at a time on one computer. Even if the new synchronization program has nothing to do with your Palm. This is especially true of YahooÆs Intellisync software and Truesync. Eventhough Intellisync is suppose to sync between Microsoft Outlook and Yahoo Calendar, it will affect your Sidekick/Palm sync. If you did then this faq is for you.

I went through alot to get everything back to happy Sidekickville. This is what I did, I hope it helps others.

This is for Windows 98. I don't know about Windows 2000 or XP (web links to download software is at the end of page):
1. Remove or uninstall the evil synchronization program so you never use it again.
2. Install Palm Desktop 4.0.1
3. Sync up to Palm Desktop 4.0.1 to make sure that the Palm is talking properly with your computer.
4. Install Truesync desktop or Sidekick99
5. Install Truesync Plus (Truesync Plus must always be installed after Palm Desktop) You may get error messages like your Palm device isn't installed correctly. Ignore this for now.
6. Transfer all *.dll files from Truesync folder to folder with Hotsync.exe. I don't know which ones Hotsync.exe really needs to see Truesync, so I transferred all of them. I didn't replace any of Hotsync's *.dll, I just added a bunch more. Or if you are brave, just transfer CalendarType.dll, MemoType.dll, TodoType.dll, ContactType.dll.
7. Make sure Custom window under Hotsync icon is looks like this.

HOT SYNC ICON on lower right of screen. (Red and blue round arrows)

8. Run Truesync Desktop. Run Truesync Plus. Answer all the personal questions. Press the hotsync button on cradle and pray.

Truesync desktop and Truesync Plus download (note: Palm and Rex use the same software). Truesync Desktop is Sidekick99. This is a really nice comprehensive website full of information.
