Why use "netcat" for HP printing?

by  pcunix  Posted    (Edited  )
Because it works.

The HP stuff is, plain and simple, broken. Don't just take my word for it: search http://groups.google.com/ in comp.unix.sco.misc and you'll see that those of us who do this for a living, who see hundreds and hundreds of different sites every year consistently say the same thing: DO NOT USE THE HP PRINTING TOOLS. You aren't going to find a single professional consultant who disagrees with that. We disagree about other things, but it is a solid wall of opinion on this: use netcat, period.

Time after time I go into sites having various stupid, flakey printing problems. I rip out the HPNP junk and replace it with netcat. Instant resolution, no more problems.

See http://pcunix.com/SCOFAQ/scotec7.html#getnetcat for more on netcat and how to use it.
