How to fix Windows XP in Eight Commands

by  bigbadbet  Posted    (Edited  )
There are eight commands you must enter in sequence. These commands are as follows:
C: CD ..
C: ATTRIB ûH C:\boot.ini
C: ATTRIB ûS C:\boot.ini
C: ATRIB ûR C:\boot.ini
C: del boot.ini
C: BOOTCFG /Rebuild
C: CHKDSK /R /F
C: FIXBOOT

First of all you need to get to the Windows Recovery Console:
1. Insert your Windows XP CD into your CD and make sure that your CD-ROM drive is capable of booting the CD.
2. Once you have booted from CD, do not select the option that states: ôPress F2 to initiate the Automated System Recovery (ASR) tool.ö YouÆre going to proceed until you see the following screen, at which point you will press the ôRö key to enter the recovery console:
3. After you have selected the appropriate option from step two, you will be prompted to select a valid Windows installation (usually number ô1ö). Select the installation number, and hit enter. If there is an administrator password for the administrator account, enter it and hit enter. You will then see a prompt c:\windows>
this is where you will start to enter your eight commands.

NOTE that this will not fix all XP errors, but i have fixed roughly 80% - 90% of boot-up problems from using this as a guide.

ALSO NOTE: I cannot take full credit for this guide but as i have no longer got the details of the person who wrote a version of it, i will assume credit on their behalf.
