explorer.exe application error cycles on boot up

by  Simpleman  Posted    (Edited  )
Having read the forum there were a number of issues which related to my problem.

That session:-

I had adjusted the VIEW function to DETAIL for the whole computer

I was creating LONG NAME jpg files in photoshop from pcx

The system crashed with error message explorer .exe - application error. Windows will close the program which will have to be restarted. A error log is being created.

The error log was "The instruction of " 0x 77fcb2b9" refenced to memeory at "0x00000067". The memory could not be "written"

The system was locked and needed Alt Control Ddelete to restart.

At the desk top recovery screen an similar error message occurred. Accepting it simply restarted explorer and repeated the message. A continuous non-stoppable cycle

SOLUTION

Control Alt Delete and open Task Manager.

Be patient as the repetitive error message keeps stopping
the system.

Select desktop and follow the path to the long named jpg files. In my case it was on a partitioned drive . i.e not the C drive

I had to delete the whole folder using right click and shift-delete to avoid recycle bin. Selecting the longest file name caused the task manager to disappear

Immediately on deleteing the folder the error messages stopped.

A wise precaution is to reset VIEW in windows explorer to an alternative selection, rather than DETAIL.
