How to Assign Multiple IP addresses to the same NIC

by  paltask14c  Posted    (Edited  )
If you want to assign more than 1 IP address to a network card in Windows 2000 pro, or server, do the following steps. Multiple IP addresses per nic let you do things such as host several websites on one server, with 1 nic. it also takes up less space on your HUB/Switch, and its cheaper than multiple NICs. A computer/server can have both an internal ip address, and external IP address with one network card, as long as it is hooked into the same hub as the LAN and Wan (or internet connection, T1/cablemodem etc)

Right Click on My Network Places, Choose Properties.
Right Click on the Local Area Connection, Choose Properties.
Highlight TCP/IP, click PROPERTIES
Click ADVANCED at the bottom.
On the IP SETTINGS tab, click the ADD button at the top.
Enter in the additional IP Adresses.
to enter more than 1 gateways, do so at the bottom of the same tab.
