How to change your Startup and Shutdown screens

by  Hunter11  Posted    (Edited  )
For those of you who are tired off the Win 98 Startup and Shutdown Screens. Changing them is realatively easy.

First select an image. Convert it to a BMP by either renaming in DOS, by using a program called Image Converter or if you have Photoed installed with Office 97 by just Save As and changing to a Windows Bitmap.

Next open MSPAINT and open the image. Resize to what ever your resolution is at startup or shutdown (usually 640x480) and resave as Logo.sys to a folder other than in the root directory or Windows folder.

Next Locate the Logo.sys files there are 3 of them. One in the root directory of your "C" drive and the other 2 in the Windows folder. The root directory is the Startup screen. Change the extention to "OLD" and then move the new Logo.sys into the root. Do the same for the shutdown screens in the Windows folder. They are Logos.sys and Logow.sys.

[Red]Remeber to change the original extention to "OLD" or you will get a conflict or even an overwrite of the old file.[/tt]

To change back to the original just change the extentions back starting with the newer one.
