How to backup Vector steps

Overview
[bi]Why is a data dump required?[/bi]
When a change is made to a vector in Avaya it is changed in the live environment. In order to be able to roll back an unsuccessful change it is necessary to keep documentation of the vector steps before the change is made.
[bi]What does this process provide[/bi]
A report can be set up to export the Vector steps which will allow an audit trail to be kept and provide a reference to previous programming setups.
[bi]Limitations[/bi]
The output of the Vector information is not the most user friendly as it is just a text dump of the screen with all the vectors listed one after the other.
As this should only be required when there has been an unsuccessful change or for reference when looking at how a previous call flow was programmed, a text file is fit for purpose.

Generating Vector List
[bi]Keeping the Process up-to-date[/bi]
If new vectors are added then they will not be picked up when the report is run unless they are added to the script. When there have been changes to Vectors then it should be reflected in the Vector list which is used when running the report.
[bi]Collecting the Vector Numbers[/bi]
The report requires an entry for each live vector in the format: ôdisplay vector 1; display vector 2; display vector 3;àö
The easiest way to generate this the first time is to run an ASA export.
Go into the Advanced tab in ASA and select the Export Data icon.
Select ôvectorö as the object to export and click ônextö.
Add only the ôNumberö field to be exported as this is the only information required to generate the list. Select ônextö.
Change the ôExport fileö field to save the file to a convenient temporary location. Select ônextö and ônextö again and then ôFinishö.
[bi]Format the List[/bi]
Once you have a list of the live vector numbers, they can be edited using Word or Excel to produce the vector list in the format ôdisplay vector 1; display vector 2; display vector 3;àö

Running ôDisplay Vectorö Report
[bi]Setting up the ôDisplay Vectorö Report[/bi]
The first time you run the vector export report you will have to paste in the vector list.
Go into the Advanced tab in ASA and select the Report icon.
In the ôCommand(s)ö field, paste the ôdisplay vectorö list.
Select ôExport screen capture to fileö, set the file location, name and select ôAppend Date to filename?ö Click OK.

Scheduling
You will now have the option to run once or schedule to run on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. N.B. for a scheduled report to run ASA will have to be running and logged on or setup with automatic login.
Once the report has been setup it will appear at the bottom of the ASA window. You can right-click on this and select ôrun nowö to generate a backup of the vector information at any time.
