Avaya Certification

Avaya certification is a good way of proving your expertise to a potential employer, and makes you feel good too!
There are unfortunatly no study guides, as such, but all the information that you need to get certified is included in the documentation that is supplied with a switch. As many of you will have inherited your system, and your predecessor has probably nicked this, there is also a resource for these documents available at:-

http://support.avaya.com

I do not know how things work in the US, but if you are in Avaya's EMEA region then the exams are available from on-line testing centres run by VUE. ( I think that's Virtual Unversity Enterprises ) and you can find them at:-

www.vue.com

These test cost (UK ú's) about 80 apiece, and are a good way of assessing your own ability for not a lot of money. To UK users thay can be a little odd because of the number of American terms that are used for concepts and equipment that we are used to, but with names we don't always recognise. Also the tests are quite far ranging, from installation questions through programming and terminal types and features and basic telephony.

Avaya's Business Partners technical staff have to take 5 exams every 2 years to maintain their "qualified" status, and there are 5 tests you have to pass.
1/ Basic 1 (essentially csi)
2/ Basic 2 ( essentially si)
3/ Advanced (G3r)
4/ Design and config. ( How to use GES configurator )
5/ RFA ( Remote Feature Activation, not on VUE, use) :-

Avaya are currently reviewing their training/certification programme with the advent of the Avaya University, and these tips may change, check:-

for up to date info,
and good luck!
Nick
