Merlin Add a station

Adding a station requires renumbering. Renumbering is the process of changing the extensionÆs appearance from a 4 digit 7100 number (setup space number) to a 2 or 3 digit number in the dial plan range (extension). NOTE: No two extensions can have the same number.

The "dial plan" means your phones are either 2-digit numbers, starting at 10, 3-digit numbers starting at 100, or 4-digit ("set up space") starting at 7100. The best plan is to put the extension in set up space, and then renumbers the extensions one by one to get the final numbering scheme. When setup this way, a new phone plugged into the port on the switch is assigned a setup space number (SSN) based on the Logical ID. The switch takes the logical ID and adds 7099. Or 71added in front of (Logical_ID-1)

The extension number is based upon the dial plan and available or unassigned extensions remaining in the dial plan. (setup space)

After adding the extension youÆll want to properly label it for display phones:

Merlin Change a station

If EXT-100 and EXT-101are changing desks and you want to renumber them.

NOTE: NO two extensions in a system can have the same #. When moving ext. #'s you must clear them first. Work with 2 numbers at a time until you complete the entire process for those two numbers.

Renumbering is a three-step process. First renumber the 1st extension to its "set up space" extension number, then renumber the 2nd extension to the 1st extension number, and then renumber the 1st extension from its "set up space" extension number to the 2nd extension number.

Example: Swap Extension 100 and 101. Look in the system planner and find that Extension 100's set up space number is 7100. Renumber 100 to 7100, then renumber 101 to 100, and finally renumber 7100 to 101.

When you swap extensions this way it only changes the ext number not the centralized programming for the telephone, if it's the same phone type it is best to just swap the line cords at the switch. You can figure out how the switch was set up by printing the dial plan, and looking at unused extension ports to see how they are numbered.

While more time consuming, you will find it easier to manage numbers if you use the SSN, via the logical ID of each extension.

Determining the "Logical ID" and Set Up Space number of an Extension:
-Menu
-Maintenance
-Port
-Station
-Enter the Extension Number
-Enter
-Status
-The screen will show the current extension number, the "Logical ID" and the "Slot/Port"
-Add 7099 and the Logical ID together to get the Set Up Space Extension Number
-Exit

Then renumber the extensions Renumbering Procedure:

-System Renumber
-Single
-Extension

-Enter
