iMac drops network printers

by  schooldaze  Posted    (Edited  )
I was experiencing iMac OS 9.2 dropping Appletalk Printers after being on for a while. Some things I tried were to check Spanning Tree on network switches. This wasn't the cause. Tried different IP addresses, no luck.
All attempts to resolve finally led me to the Appletalk Control Panel, change the User Mode to Advanced - click Options - and make AppleTalk inactive. Close and Save

Open AppleTalk Control Panel and it will prompt you if you want to make it active again. Yes This forces AppleTalk to acquire and ne Node and Network number. What was happening was that the new machine had the same address as another machine and after a while would drop off.
