How to change Motherboards without reinstalling XP...

STEP 1.
Copy the following files from your XP CD to the %Windir%\System32\drivers Folder:
ATAPI.SYS (ATAPI.SY_ on the XP INSTALL CD)
INTELIDE.SYS (INTELIDE.SY_ " " " " )
PCIIDE.SYS (PCIIDE.SY_ " " " " )
PCIIDEX.SYS (PCIIDEX.SY_ " " " " )
use the expand command from the CLI (RUN BOX or CMD Line Interface)
Info on the EXPAND command @

ie. [color red]expand -r Z:\I386\PCIIDE.SY_ C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers[/color]
Where [color red yellow]Z:[/color] is the DVD/CD Drive the XP Install CD is located at...
And [color red yellow]C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers[/color] is the destination FOLDER...
Step 2.
Copy the Following into NotePad and save it out as [color red yellow]MERGEIDE.REG[/color]:
merge the above ([color red yellow]MERGEIDE.REG[/color]) into the registry, by double clicking the file.
Power down and switch motherboards...
PS: worked for me many times... hope it helps you all in the future...
