How to remove glued/dried on heatsink from chip?

Gently buy firmly twist the heatsink relative to the chip rather than pulling or prying as most heatsink/chip interface materials have little shear strength relative to their tensile strength. This is more easily and safely done with the chip in its socket - avoids bent pins or exposure to static.
