*Safe settings from ATI:
-AGP Bus Turbo Mode, AGP Turbo -> DISABLED
-Primary Frame Buffer, VGA Frame Buffer -> DISABLED
-AGP 1X/2X/4X -> Should be set to match the capabilities of the graphics adapter
-AGP Aperture Size -> DEFAULT or 64MB
(Note - These recommendations are for troubleshooting. Your system may perform better with different settings)

-VERSION CONFLICTS

When installing Display Drivers or Software a "Version Conflict" message may appear multiple times during the installation.

If you encounter a "VERSION CONFLICT" message while installing this display driver select the "NO" option to proceed.

* Selecting "NO" will ensure that the components of this driver bundle will replace your existing driver components.

* Selecting "YES" will result in a MIX of new and old driver components, which is undesirable

-CONFIRM FILE REPLACE

When installing Display Drivers or Software a "Confirm File Replace" message may appear multiple times during the installation.

If you encounter a "Confirm File Replace" message while installing this display driver select the "YES" option to proceed.

Selecting "YES" will ensure that all the components of this driver bundle will replace your existing driver components.

-"UNKNOWN DEVICE" when NEW HARDWARE is detected

If you install the Recommended ATI Display Driver (ati.com) before installing tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125.exe you may encounter UNKNOWN DEVICES when restarting the computer.

If this occurs,

- Select CANCEL for all UNKNOWN DEVICES that are detected

- Install tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125.exe

- Restart the computer

-"MISSING FILE" MESSAGE During Install

During installation of this software you may see a message which indicates a driver file cannot be found. Typically this will occur after the system has been restarted and the NEW HARDWARE is being detected.

To work around this issue you must

- BROWSE to the directory where the new drivers were unpacked. By default this directory will be C:\ATI\support\ tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125\

- BROWSE to the directory that is appropriate for your Operating System. For example

C:\ATI\support\ tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125\Wdm_xp If your OS = Window XP

OR

C:\ATI\support\ tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125\Wdm_2k If your OS = Windows 2000

OR

C:\ATI\support\ tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125\Wdm_9x If your OS = Windows Millennium or Windows 98SE

- Once the appropriate directory is selected click OK, then OK again to copy the file to the system.

-TV PLAYER FAILED TO INITIALIZE VIDEO, running ATI MULTIMEDIA CENTER

Some ATI display drivers will not recognize or function with the software contained in tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125.exe. If you experience problems with your TV or Capture application be sure to install the Recommended ATI Display driver (ati.com).

If problems continue and you are using the Recommended ATI Display driver open DEVICE MANAGER >> Sound, Video and game controller to ensure that all ATI WDM components (Listed below) are present and functioning properly. The properties for each device MUST state that "This device is working properly"

If any device is not working properly,

- Select and remove all of the ATI components shown under Sound, Video and game controller

- Close DEVICE MANAGER

- DO NOT restart the system

- install tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125.exe

- Restart the system

-"DEVICE DRIVER is STUCK IN INFINITE LOOP" error in Windows XP

This issue affects different makes and models of video cards from various manufacturers under Windows XP.

The "Device driver is stuck in an Infinite loop" error message is usually the result of a system communication problem.

This error message does not occur on all systems configurations.

The following suggestion may help to correct this issue:
Please ensure that you have the latest Bios update for your Motherboard and test your system.
Make sure you have an adequate power supply.
Disable or enable AGP fast write and test your system.
Set your memory settings in the BIOS less aggressively and test.
If the above suggestions did not resolve your issue please contact your motherboard manufacture to obtain the latest chipset drivers.

-AutoCAD 2002 - Remnants of mouse pointer left on display

This issue affects RADEON products under Windows XP and Windows 2000 using CATALYSTÖ 02.2 display drivers.
In some instances, when running AutoCAD 2002, a portion of the mouse pointer may be left on the display when the mouse is moved.

Other Autodesk applications may also be affected.

To correct this issue, download and install CATALYSTÖ 02.3 or higher.

-) "Data is invalid" error installing device drivers under Windows XP

The following information applies when attempting to install device drivers under Windows XP.
Under certain conditions, you may experience an error stating "Data is Invalid" when attempting to install drivers.

This issue is not ATI specific. This error can also occur when configuring drivers for a variety of hardware devices such as SCSI cards, network cards, Modems, Sound Cards, or other peripherals.

This symptom appears to occur when there has been a recent hardware configuration change within Windows XP.

Should a display driver be affected, you will be limited to VGA resolutions only.

This error is believed to be due to an issue occurring when hardware enumeration takes place by the operating system. The cause of the error is unknown.

-"Ddhelp Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Unknown" after installing a graphics adapter or software

In some instances after installing a graphics adapter or software the error "Ddhelp Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Unknown" may occur when launching certain applications.

1)Conflict with utilities/drivers for a previous graphics adapter
When you replace a display adapter without un-installing its drivers and utilities problems may occur if Windows attempts to launch or use these drivers and utilities.
Ensure that any drivers/utilities for older display adapters have been removed from the system. Most graphics card manufacturers will provide entries in the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS panel to allow un-installation of drivers and utilities.
2)Problem with the installation of DirectX
Current ATI display drivers require specific minimum versions of DirectX for correct operation. If an older version of DirectX is installed or if older DirectX components have been erroneously installed by a 3rd party program, you may encounter problems.
In either case, installing (or re-installing) the current version of DirectX should resolve the issue.

3)Other possible sources
In addition to the two items noted above there are several other possible conditions which may contribute to the occurrence of this error. Please ensure,
Current AGP Motherboard/Chipset drivers have been installed. (When using an AGP graphics card.)
No conflicts exist with other software being loaded when Windows starts.
4)If you continue to experience difficulties
If the recommendations above do not help you correct the problem, please complete an ATI Problem Report and send it to us.

-Difficulties under Windows 9x/ME with more than 512MB of memory installed in the system

In some instances, after installing more than 512MB of system memory under Windows 9X/ME, you may experience various operational difficulties.

These issues can occur due to how the 32-bit protected-mode cache driver (VCache) for Windows 9x/ME reserves memory.

On systems with more than 512 meg of system memory, VCache may reserve all of the virtual addresses available in the system thus leaving no virtual addresses for other applications/hardware (such as AGP graphics adapters) which require them. When this occurs a variety of operational difficulties may occur in the system.

This issue with VCache does not affect Windows 2000.

If you are using an AGP graphics card ensure that the AGP Aperture Size is set to default (or 64MB) in the CMOS setup for the system before proceeding.*see note below

To determine if VCache is the source for your difficulties, try reducing the amount of memory that is installed in your computer to 512 MB or less. If the issue does not reoccur, replace the memory and try the VCache settings outlined below to determine if the system will function normally with additional RAM installed.

Set the MinFileCache and MaxFileCache setting in the SYSTEM.INI file to reduce the maximum amount of memory that VCache uses to 512 megabytes (524,288 KB) or less. Remember to save the changes to the SYSTEM.INI file and restart the system.

NOTE: The values for these settings are in kilobytes. 1024 kilobytes = 1 Megabytes

For example, if you want to create a 512-MB cache that cannot exceed 514-MB, the lines would be as follows:

[VCache]
MinFileCache=524288
MaxFileCache=526336

NOTE: Some customer reports indicate that setting the AGP Aperture Size to its highest value (128, 256 or 512) may allow Windows to launch without errors when VCache settings alone do not help. Unfortunately, these reports also indicate that the system may still exhibit stability problems when system memory is greater than 512 MB. Also keep in mind that some motherboards may exhibit stability problems when more than two memory modules are installed. Please check with the manufacturer of your motherboard.

-OpenGL Based Application Causes an Access Violation error

OpenGL applications may exhibit Access Violation errors upon rendering a scene that consists of very long spline lines in a model or bitmap. This issue is not specific to ATI, and can occur on any graphics card under Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
This error occurs due to an inaccurate calculation of the coordinates for the long line.

Microsoft has released updates for Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP to correct difficulties rendering scenes within OpenGL based applications.

-RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB - AGP transfer mode incorrectly detected as 1x or 2x in AGP 8x systems

This issue affects the RADEON 9700 PRO when configured in some AGP 8x capable systems:

Some users have reported that when running certain benchmarking utilities, the AGP transfer mode will be incorrectly detected as either 1x or 2x.

Affected benchmark utilities include:
3D Mark 2001 SE
SiSoft Sandra
Other utilities, including ATI Details Tab, may also be affected.

Although the AGP transfer mode is detected incorrectly, system performance is not affected.

Tests will indicate that the AGP speed is 1x or 2x


CATALYST 02.4 Display Drivers and newer will report the correct AGP data transfer rate within the ATI Details tab in Display Properties.

As well, many benchmark vendors have released patches to allow their utility to become AGP 8x aware. ATI CustomerCare recommends that users contact the manufacturer of the program, or visit their website for possible updates.

Furthermore, the latest available AGP drivers should be installed as they enable AGP functionality for the motherboard chipset. These drivers are provided by your motherboard manufacturer, on their website and/or on CD. For additional details, please read:

We recommend installing the latest motherboard BIOS for your system. Many of the 8X issues have been resolved with an updated BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer. Additionally, users should also verify that the AGP speed has been set to 8x in the system BIOS.

-RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB - Corrupted display when system is started

A corrupted display may be noticed under the following conditions:
A system with a RADEON 9700 PRO 128 MB
The system has been started
Only a small number of configurations may be affected.

Customers report changing the power supply in an affected system resolves the corruption. If another power supply is available, it is advised to install it for testing.

A 300 Watt power supply or greater is recommended to ensure normal system operation where a number of other internal devices are installed.

-RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB - System POST related issues on AGP 8x motherboards

After installing the RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB in an AGP 8x capable motherboard, a small number of customers may experience system boot related issues.
Most AGP 8x motherboards are unaffected. Some customers have reported that pressing the system RESET button or "CTRL-ALT-DEL" combination, or lowering the AGP transfer speed will allow the system to boot.

Please ensure that none of the articles listed below apply in your particular instance.

Corrupted display on cold boot

No display on POST until Windows loads

In addition, it is important to ensure that appropriate system preparation is done prior to installing the RADEON 9700 PRO. We recommend installing the latest motherboard BIOS for your system. Many of the 8X issues have been resolved with an updated BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer.

As well, the latest available AGP drivers should be installed as they enable AGP functionality for the motherboard chipset. These drivers are provided by your motherboard manufacturer, on their website and/or on CD. For additional details, please read:

-RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB: No display on POST until Windows loads

This issue affects some Radeon 9700 PRO 128MB products configured on an ASUS P4T533 - C motherboard. However, other motherboards may also be affected.
In some instances, no display will be present on the initial bootup or POST screen. However, once the operating system loads, the display will return.

Most systems are unaffected.

-"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use" - Spacewalker AV61

This issue affects ATI graphics adapters under Windows 2000 when using a Shuttle Spacewalker AV61 motherboard.
In some instances, after installing the graphics card, the following error will be reported in the Device Manager:

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. (Code 12) "

This symptom is related to an issue with the System BIOS used by the motherboard itself. This issue can affect all display adapters and is not specific to ATI.

Shuttle has addressed this issue with a BIOS update.

-Unable to run some OpenGL software under Windows 9x/ME in dual monitor configurations

Under Windows 9x/ME, when using a dual monitor setup, applications requiring hardware acceleration support for OpenGL will not be able to run (or will run only in software/Direct3D mode) when both displays are active. The most common programs to exhibit this symptom are games based on the Quake II and Quake III engines.

In order to run OpenGL mode in a dual monitor setup the secondary monitor must be disabled from DISPLAY properties in Windows 9x/ME. Once the secondary monitor has been disabled the application should function in OpenGL mode without difficulty.

When Windows 9x/ME detects a multi-monitor configuration (either a dual-ported card such as the RADEON VE or two independent graphics controllers), it will prevent the hardware accelerated OpenGL driver from loading. Instead, the Microsoft-supplied OpenGL software renderer will be used.

Most OpenGL programs will run, though at reduced speed, using this software renderer. However, applications requiring hardware acceleration support for OpenGL will detect that the renderer is not hardware accelerated, and refuse to run.

-Windows Protection Error or system hangs loading Windows after installing ATI Enhanced drivers

On the first system restart after installing an ATI Enhanced display driver for an ATI AGP graphics adapter, you may see one of the following problems:
Windows Protection Error during startup
Windows hangs at a black screen while loading
the system boots correctly but hangs after 3 or 4 minutes of operation
Refer to the following sections for possible causes.


1)Appropriate motherboard chipset drivers are not present on the system
Not only do you need display drivers for your AGP graphics card, you also need drivers for your motherboard, which enable AGP functionality for the motherboard chipset. These drivers are provided by your motherboard manufacturer, on their website and/or on CD. For additional details, please read:

2)Some Windows versions (e.g. Windows 95/NT 4) do not support AGP by default

3)CMOS setup options are set incorrectly

4)Motherboard has been replaced, but Windows has not been re-installed
If you've changed your motherboard, but not your hard drive, then we strongly recommend that you re-install Windows.
To preserve your existing applications and settings, you may choose to install Windows over-top of itself.
5)Updated system BIOS may be needed
Please check with your motherboard manufacturer to ensure that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard. BIOS updates often address hardware and compatibility problems.

-XP Bench - slower 2D Performance upon installing CATALYSTÖ 02.1 or 02.2

This issue affects RADEON products when used with Windows XP:
Upon installing the CATALYSTÖ 02.1 or 02.2 display drivers, XP Bench may show a decrease in 2D performance compared to previous drivers.

After the first restart after the driver installation, ATI SMARTGARTÖ polls the system for its AGP capabilities. In some configurations, the system may need to be restarted in order to enable the maximum AGP capabilities of the graphics board
To resolve this issue, perform another restart of the system after the driver installation has occurred.
