What is the difference between shielded and un-shielded cabling and why it's important

This link has one of the best white papers on cable design and why each pair is important. It also discusses in great detail the pros and cons of shielded cable vs un-shielded cable. It's important to read and learn as some of it is not "common sense" in the normal sense of the word. I have personal expererience with some of the issues and the results and can attest to the accuracy of the paper. I also have enough of a EE background to understand the technical side which is pretty interesting ( to a geek)
