Question
Why does a deduplicated storage pool show an excessive number of volumes as filling but are not
being reused?
Cause
Collocation is being used on the dedupulicated storage pool.
Best practices indicate that collocation should not be used on deduplicated storage pools. Reading a deduplicated object requires the retrieval of chunks from other objects which likely requires the mounting of other volumes. This action defeats the purpose of collocation.
Answer
Disable collocation on the storage pool using the UPDATE STGPOOL command. This will allow the filling volumes that were previously not being selected for output to be used again.
