How do I copy of a tape/tapes for offsite storage?

by  fastlinux  Posted    (Edited  )
The tape copy program, tapecopy.exe, is a utility to duplicate the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows media for off-site storage.

To execute the tape copy utility, open a MS-DOS command window on the tape backup server. The tapecopy.exe executable must be used from the BrightStor AB home directory.

Example:

tapecopy -sGROUP0 -dGROUP0 -t"M-LAB-SUN- 1/31/04" -b

The tapecopy.exe command line options above are defined as follows:

-s GROUP0 Source Group Name
-d GROUP0 Destination Group Name
-t ôM-LAB-SUN- 1/31/04ö Name of media to be copied
-b Uses blank tapes only as target tapes

The source and destination group names are both ôGROUP0ö since this is the only group configured in this ARCserve Brighstor implementation.

The media to be copied, "M-LAB-SUN- 1/31/04", is the last monthly backup tape set. In this example, the monthly backup tape set is created on the last Saturday of each month. Be aware that the month number in the tape media name is preceded by a blank space if the month number is less than ten (10). If a blank space is not inserted, then the tapecopy.exe command will not find the tape set and the tape copy operation will fail.

The ô-bö option instructs the tape copy command to only use blank tapes as the target tapes. Consequently, sufficient blank tapes must exist in the library for the tape copy operation to complete without interruption.
