What do I do if my drive isn't recognized?

by  gwootton  Posted    (Edited  )
1. Update firmware (if firmware update can see drive)
2. Is anything recognizing (BIOS/OS/SW)?
If not recognized in BIOS:
Verify connections
Try different power cable
For SCSI drive, verify termination.
Swap cables
Do other devices work in same place?
If in BIOS, but not OS:
Check device manager for !, X or ?
For SCSI, check settings (DTR, SYNC, SCSI Disconnect)
For IDE, verify jumper settings, try with drive hooking on same cable as another device.
If in BIOS/OS, but not in SW:
Check for correct drivers
Uninstall/Reinstall
Try different software
If using echo, make sure not running sc2k/adr2k.
