How can you tell the date of the Tape Engine?

by  davidmichel  Posted    (Edited  )
The question can come up if a Tape Engine update was installed or not, or if it was installed correctly.

To find out for sure the date of the Tape Engine follow these steps:
1) Stop the Tape Engine.
2) Enable its debug log.
3) Start the Tape Engine.
4) Wait for it to finish initilizing.
5) Disable debug, (it is not necessary to stop the Tape Engine again).

The begining of the log will have an entry like this:

TAPE ENGINE MESSAGE LOG
OEM: CA Inc.
Name: ARCserve 2000
Major Version: 7
Minor Version: 0
Date: Nov 30 2001
Time: 12:21:30

This date is the date of the Tape Engine, and should match up to the last Tape Engine update installed. If it does not, close the Manager, stop all the ARCserve services from within the OS Services Manager utility, and try the install again.
