Remotely backing up another Computer not in the same domain

by  poochie  Posted    (Edited  )
Install Client agent on the Remote Computer (Client)in Domain eg: pupdog\lassie, and configure the Agent to use a Specified IP Address (This should be the IP Address of the Computer(Server) where AS is installed)

On the Remote Computer (Client) ensure that you have a Internet connection (Dialup/ADSL/Leaseline etc) and a VPN connection to the other Domain eg: bulldog(Where the AS Server resides).

Once this is done the following must be done from the Server:

1.Launch AS Manager from the Server
2.From File Menu select>Manager>Backup.
3.On the Source Tab>Expand Client Agents>
4. Select the respective Client Agent i.e(Winnt/2000, AS400 etc)
5. Select Add Object
6. Type in the host name of the Remote Computer(Client)
7. Where it says TCP/IP or IPX>Check the respective Box and enter the relevant address of the Remote Computer(Client)
8. When this Computer appears, right click on it and select security.
9. Enter the a username (this should be from an Account from the Clients Domain which has permission the access this (Clients) Computer eg: pupdog\lassie
10. Enter the password for lassie.
11. This will take you into the Remote Computer (Client) after which you can then select files/folders required to be backup.
12. Once this is done you can then select the Green traffic light to start the backup.

A few things to note:
The connections (Internet and VPN) must be running throughout the Backup process.
You will need additional Clients/Agents if you are backing up SQL, Exchange Databases, Mail boxes and Open Files.

Enough said now start your process and wish you luck
