1.2 Install SQLDB Agent
During the setup I selected authentication as mixed mode and set my user as ôdomain\sa_userö, I also set network protocol to TCP/IP.
CA highly recommends that the Backup Agent be installed using sa (System Administrator) or equivalent as its login id. Any other user-id will also work provided that it has backup and restore privileges on required databases and select privileges for the system tables in the master database. Integrated login is also supported, provided that this login is administrator equivalent. The Backup agent also supports Windows NT authentication for MS SQLserver 7.0 and SQL Server 2000 .
1.3 Remember you have to reinstall the Backup Agent in case a password change occurs for the login id specified.
2. Troubleshooting Tips
2.1 To get a detailed troubleshooting log you have to modify the registry and set the debug option to true. There are several different locations on where this option is located in the registry depending on what version of SQL you have installed. The release notes provided by CA give detailed instructions on the locations. These release notes are installed and are available when you install the option via the download listed above.
2.2 When you modify the registry and Set debug:REG_DWORD:1 (TRUE) this will enable detailed debug logging for the Backup Agent. This option will create an additional Backup Agent log file called the Backup Agent trace log. This file is created and updated only in the case when debug is enabled (as described earlier). This log is located in the Backup Agent home directory and is named: dbasql60.trc or dbasql.trc
2.3 The Backup Agent includes an activity log to list information about backup or restore jobs and their status. The Backup Agent log is named dbasql60.log or dbasql.log and is located in the directory where the Backup Agent has been installed. In the case that any errors appear in the ARCserve job logs you must check the Backup Agent log for more information on why the errors occurred.
2.4 The release notes also include known limitations for the CAÆs SQL DB agent.
