Backup trustee rights on NetWare volumes

by  Provogeek  Posted    (Edited  )
There are two ways you can backup the trustee rights of a volume in NetWare version 4.x. Both are avilable for download from http://support.novell.com.

Option 1
TBACKUP.EXE - The download file name is TBACK3.EXE. You run this from a logged in workstation with a mapped drive to the volume and it will create a .BAT file using the RIGHTS command in a NetWare 4.x enviroment in the same path it is executed from. This tool will also work in a NetWare 3.x enviroment using the GRANT and ALLOW commands in the .BAT file. When executed, it will only create the commands needed for the current directory. To scan sub directories, use the /S switch. For an entire volume, execute from the root of the volume.

I have used this tool many times and sometimes I have found the BAT file to be created using the GRANT and ALLOW commands. If this happens to you, reboot your machine and log back in after doing a DSREPAIR on your server.

Option 2
TRUSTEE.NLM - The download file name is TRUST110C.EXE. This tool saves all file system properties into a CSV file starting from the given path. There are a large amount of options avilable to this tool. Basic usage, copy to the SYS:SYSTEM directory and run from the server console. LOAD TRUSTEE [options] SAVE (ALL | <path>) <outputFile> Read the readme included in it before asking questions on usage.
