How do i change the default browser in Flash ?

by  raymondbirch  Posted    (Edited  )
Many Flash users have multiple browsers installed on their systems, and have a preference for previewing Flash movies in a browser (File > Publish Preview > HTML) or viewing Flash's online help system. Unlike Dreamweaver, for instance, Flash has no built-in feature for designating a default browser. However, it is possible to do so by following the steps below.

To create a preferred browser for Flash 5 on Windows:

1 In the Flash 5 application folder (C:/Program Files > Macromedia > Flash 5, in a default installation) locate the folder named Browsers.
2 Locate the program file of the preferred browser. For example, on most systems the program file for Internet Explorer is named "IEXPLORE.EXE". For Netscape browsers, the program files is typically named "netscape.exe".

3 Right click on the program file and select Create Shortcut.

4 Move the new shortcut to Flash 5's Browsers folder.

5 To change back to the default preferred browser, move the shortcut to the browser out of the Browsers folder. There is no need to relaunch Flash 5.

To create a preferred browser for Flash 5 on Macintosh:

1 In the Flash 5 application folder, create a new folder named Browser.
2 Find the original program file for the preferred browser. Select the program file and choose File > Make Alias.

3 Rename the alias "Default Browser".
4 Move the alias to the newly created Browser folder inside the Flash 5 folder.

5 To temporarily change back to the default preferred browser, move the Browser folder to the Desktop or another location. There is no need to relaunch Flash 5.

To go back to the 'aliased' preferred browser simply move the folder back into the Flash 5 folder.
