How do I set up a complete Linux / Perl / Catalyst development environment including web-server / daemon / backend database.

Hi,

Having used the Catalyst MVC framework for a while under Windows with Active-State Perl, I decided to delve into the world of Linux and set up a complete development environment to aide with the re-write of my hobby website, as well as to help learn more about Linux and utilise the power of the latest web technologies.

To contribute back to the Open Source project and as a thank-you to the Catalyst community for all their support and assistance, I have documented my journey with a complete walkthrough, which has been published as a three part guide on the 2013 Catalyst Advent Calendar. http://www.catalystframework.org/calendar/

I thought I would include a link to it from Tek-Tips, to hopefully help others who want an 'easy to follow', 'step by step' guide on setting up a complete Linux / Perl / Catalyst development environment.

Here is a brief overview of the article...

A step by step guide in setting up a complete web-server application development environment utilising GNU/Linux, NGINX, MySQL, PhpMyAdmin, PostGreSQL, pgAdmin III (including php-fpm & Catalyst application Daemon), perlbrew, Perl 5.16.0, CPAN Minus and of course the Catalyst MVC framework.

You can access the three parts with the following URLs...

Part 1 : http://www.catalystframework.org/calendar/2013/18

Part 2 : http://www.catalystframework.org/calendar/2013/19

Part 3 : http://www.catalystframework.org/calendar/2013/20

I hope you find this FAQ useful and welcome all feedback.
