The principles behind embedding Real or Quicktime in a web page are similar to WIndows Media- using a combination of od

However each player exposes a slightly different feature set, and references these features with slight;y different names.

By embedding a media player into a web page you can also customize the look and feel of buttons and the size of video screen.
This is done via a combination of Javascript triggering functions. You can also embed these function into flash to allow flash elements to also control the player.
